License Information

Call Sign
The combination of letters and numbers that identify an FCC license.

Radio Service
The Radio Service under which the license has been issued.

VX — Instructional Television Fixed Service (ITFS)

MD — Multipoint Distribution Service and Multichannel Multipoint Distribution Service (MDS)

Status
The status of the license. The license status may be Active, Cancelled, Expired or Terminated.

Authorization Type
Regular FCC licenses.

Pending Application
If applicable, a statement that the license has pending applications appears at the top of the license detail, with link(s) to the pending applications.

Dates

Grant Date
The date on which the license term (usually 10 years) begins. This date also sets the timetable for any applicable construction or coverage deadlines.

Effective Date
The date on which a license becomes effective. In most cases this is the same as the Grant Date. For modifications, the original Grant Date of the license will remain the same, but the Effective Date will be the day the Modification becomes effective.

Expiration Date
The date after which a license ceases to be valid. For example, a license with a 12/1/2004 expiration is no longer valid at 12:00am on 12/2/2004. In most cases wireless licenses have a 10-year license term, and the expiration date is the 10-year anniversary date of the original license grant date.

Cancellation Date
The date a call sign became inactive. The licensee may file an application to request cancellation. Licenses can become inactive when the license expires and is auto-deleted via a ULS auto-expiration program. The FCC can also choose to terminate the license in the case where a licensee fails to meet its debt obligations to the U.S. Government with respect to an auctioned license or for non-construction or discontinuance of operations.

Licensee Information

FRN
The Licensee FCC Registration Number (FRN) is a unique 10-digit number that is assigned by the Commission Registration System (CORES) to any entity doing business with the FCC. For further information on CORES and registration requirements, access the CORES Web page.

Type
The type of entity of the licensee. For most licenses in these Radio Services, this data is not available.

Name and Address
The Licensee name, mailing address, telephone, fax, and e-mail address.

Contact
This information identifies the name, address and phone number of the contact representative, if different from the licensee. This is usually the headquarters office of a large company, the law firm, or other representative of the licensee, or the company or person who prepared the application for the license.

MDS/ITFS Data

Facility Type
The type of facility or station licensed.

Facility ID
A unique FCC assigned series of numbers used to identify the facility. If the license was assigned a facility ID number prior to conversion to ULS, the Facility ID number will be displayed. However, no new facility ID numbers will be generated in ULS.

Regulatory Status
The Licensee’s carrier status.

Common Carrier
Non-Common Carrier
Both Common and Non-Common

Statement of Intention
Lists Y(Yes) or N(No) to indicate whether authorization was initially issued as a result of the applicant filing for a Statement of Intent to construct within the Basic Trading Area specified.

Authorization Type
Lists whether the facility is within a Protected Service Area, Basic Trading Area (BTA), or Partitioned Service Area (PSA).

Associated Main Station Call Signs
For Hub and Booster stations, a listing of any Associated Main Station Call Signs, with one being designated as the Lead Call Sign.

Applications

Receipt Date
Date on which FCC received the application.

File Number and Type
File number and type of any application relating to the license. Click on the file number of an application to open a new window with the Application Search detail page for the application. Up to three applications associated with the call sign are displayed on the Admin tab. If there are more than three, click the link provided to access the All Applications page.

Status
Processing status of the application.
1 — The application has been received and is pending initial automated processes.
2 — The application is currently Pending Commission action.
D — The application has been Dismissed.
G — The application has been Granted.
I — The application has been Inactivated as a result of a subsequent filing.
K — The application has been determined to be erroneous and has been ‘Killed’ by the Commission.
R — The application has been Returned for correction or clarification.
W — The application has been Withdrawn by the applicant.

Automated Letters

Lists letters generated by ULS that the FCC has sent to the licensee and/or contact, and allows you to view a summary of the information associated with the letter. Each letter is identified by a sequential reference number assigned by the ULS, call sign, letter type, and date the letter was generated.

To view the information for a letter, click its reference number.

Comments

Displays any comments entered by the FCC regarding the license, and the date each comment was entered

History

Lists each significant event that occurred during the processing of the license, as well as the date the event occurred.

Special Conditions

Displays special rules or restrictions that apply to a particular license. The text of up to three special conditions will appear. If there are more than three, click the link provided to access the All Special Conditions page. Note: Refer to the Locations and/or Frequencies tabs to see special conditions at those levels.

Attachments

Lists the Type, Description and Date of the Attachment related to the License. To view an attachment file, click on the hyperlink in the Description column.

MDS/ITFS - Locations Tab

Total Locations

Displays the number of total locations for the license.

Authorization Type

Lists the authorization type for the license, as well as the market and submarket codes for the appropriate authorization types.

  • Protected Service Area: Displays the center-point coordinates of a 56.33 km (35 mile) radius protected service area.
  • Basic Trading Area (BTA): Displays the BTA Market Number, City and State.
  • Partitioned Service Area (PSA): Displays the BTA Market Number, City and State that has been partitioned.

Transmitter Station Location

Address
The street address, city, county and state of the transmitter station.

Coordinates
Latitude and Longitude of the station location, displayed in Degrees, Minutes, Seconds and Direction.

Site Elevation
The height above mean sea level, in meters, of the ground elevation at the station location.

Height Without Appurtenances
The height of the antenna supporting structure, displayed in meters.

Height With Appurtenances
The overall height of the antenna structure, including all appurtenances, displayed in meters.

ASR #
A seven-digit number issued by the FCC’s Antenna Structure Registration (ASR) system that uniquely identifies an antenna structure. For more information on ASR, access http://wireless.fcc.gov/antenna.

Site Structure
The type of structure on which the antenna is mounted.

Special Conditions
This section displays special rules or restrictions that apply to the transmitter station location.


Transmit Antenna Information

Antenna Type
Displays the type of the antenna, either a Transmitter or Hub.
Note: for Hub antenna records, no other antenna data is displayed.

Antenna Make
Displays the name of the antenna manufacturer.

Antenna Model
Displays the Model Number of the antenna.

Azimuth
The angle in the horizontal plane of the antenna main lobe in degrees, measured clockwise from True North.

Beam Tilt
The amount of non-standard beam tilt, displayed in degrees.

Polarization
The direction of the electronic field, either Vertical or Horizontal.

Beam Width
The angular distance between the half power points of the antenna’s main lobe in the horizontal plane, displayed in degrees.

Gain (dBi)
Gain of the antenna as measured with respect to an isotropic radiator.

Height — The height of the antenna center of radiation above ground level, displayed in meters.

Receive Sites

Lists the Location Number, Type of Location (Fixed), and the coordinates of each Receive Site. A link is available to view more specific details of the Receive Site, including:

  • Antenna Manufacturer
  • Antenna Model Number
  • Receive Site Antenna Polarization

The Frequencies Summary Screen displays a listing of Channels/Frequencies along with their associated Antenna Number, Frequency Number, Offset and Power. The Channel number is a link to view more specific details of the frequency.

MDS/ITFS - Frequency Detail

Frequency

Channel
The Channel number assigned to the Frequency. Each frequency range in these Radio Services is assigned a Channel Number.

Frequency Lower Band (MHz)
The lower range of the frequency band displayed in Megahertz.

Frequency Upper Band (MHz)
The upper range of the frequency band displayed in Megahertz.

EIRP (dBm)
Displays the maximum Effective Isotropically Radiated Power in the horizontal plane, displayed in dBm

Offset
Displays the frequency offset if applicable, either Plus (+), Minus (-), or Zero (0)

Emissions

Emission Designator
The Emission designator of the transmitter composed of bandwidth and emission type. Emission designators consist of 7 characters, the first 4 of which define the bandwidth of the signal; the last 3 define the type of modulation, nature of the signal modulating the carrier, and the type of information being transmitted.

Digital Modulation
For digital emissions, the type of modulation.

Buildout Dates

First Use
The date the frequency was initially licensed under this call sign in ULS.

Deadline
The deadline for filing a Certification of Completion of Construction.

Notification
The date the FCC received Notification of Completion of Construction.

COSER

Data will be displayed for those licenses that required FCC coordination with Canadian authorities in accordance with International Treaty Agreements.

This section displays special rules or restrictions that apply to a particular frequency of a license.
