License Information
Call Sign
The combination of letters and numbers that identify the
FCC license.
Radio Service
The name of the wireless service under which the Universal Licensing System (ULS) has issued the license. The name of the service is preceded by a unique, 2-letter code assigned to the service in ULS. Click here for a complete listing of Radio Services and their two letter codes.
Status
The current status of the license, one of the following:
A—Active
C—Canceled
E—Expired
T—Terminated
X—Termination Pending
The following status messages may appear at the top of
the License Search detail:
This license has pending applications:
Click on the application file numbers included in the
above message to access the pending applications in ULS
Application Search.
This call sign or a component(s) of this call sign is
in termination pending status for failure to meet the
buildout requirement.
If the license is in termination pending status for failure
to meet the buildout requirement, the call sign status
will display as “Term Pending.” If one or
more components (location or frequency) of a license are
in termination pending status, an icon will appear next
to the affected component(s) on the Locations or Frequencies
tab(s).
NOTE:
When searching in ULS License Search, all statuses are
selected by default. To narrow your search, deselect undesired
status codes.
Authorization Type
The type of authorization granted to the license, one
of the following:
Developmental—Authorizations that
the FCC granted for developmental authority to construct
and operate transmitters for the purpose of developing
a new radio service or a new technology not regularly
authorized under specific FCC rules.
STA—Authorizations that the FCC
granted for temporary use (i.e., circumstances requiring
immediate or emergency use of facilities, temporary authority
to install and/or operate new or modified equipment, etc.).
Demonstration—Licenses used by
licensees involved in the sale and/or marketing of radio
equipment. Demonstration licenses may be used for purposes
of demonstrating equipment to potential customers at trade
shows or at other exhibitions, performing on site coverage
studies for potential customers, or other uses as provided
for under specific FCC rules.
Regular—Regular authorizations,
not applicable for Developmental, STA, or Demonstration.
Market
Market
The FCC market code and description are displayed.
Channel Block
The channel block letter /number within the market is
displayed.
Submarket Designator
If the market has been subdivided, the code for the submarket
will be displayed.
Associated Frequencies
Frequency range(s) for the channel block are displayed.
Dates
Grant Date
The date on which the license term (usually 10 years)
begins. This date also sets the timetable for any applicable
construction or coverage deadlines.
Effective Date
The date on which a license becomes effective. In most
cases this is the same as the Grant Date. For modifications,
the original Grant Date of the license will remain the
same, but the Effective Date will be the day the Modification
becomes effective.
Expiration Date
The date after which a license ceases to be valid. For
example, a license with a 12/1/2004 expiration is no longer
valid at 12:00am on 12/2/2004. In most cases wireless
licenses have a 10-year license term, and the expiration
date is the 10-year anniversary date of the original license
grant date.
Cancellation Date
The date a call sign became inactive. The licensee may
file an application to request cancellation. Licenses
can become inactive when the license expires and is auto-deleted
via ULS’s auto-expiration program. The FCC can also
choose to terminate the license in the case where a licensee
fails to meet its debt obligations to the U.S. government
with respect to an auctioned license or for non-construction
or discontinuance of operations.
Buildout Deadlines
Most licenses have either a 5-year/10-year Buildout deadline
or a 3-year/5-year Buildout deadline.
Notification Dates
The dates on which the licensee notifies the FCC that the
applicable Buildout deadlines have been met.
Licensee Information
FRN
The FCC Registration Number (FRN) is a unique 10-digit
number that is assigned by the Commission Registration
System (CORES) to an entity doing business with the FCC.

Type
The entity type of the licensee is displayed. The entity
types are listed below:
- Corporation
- Governmental Entity
- Individual
- Limited Liability Company
- Consortium

- Limited Liability Partnership
- Limited Partnership
- Other (with a legal description)
Licensee Name and Address
The name of the individual or business entity holding
the license, its address, and other contact information
such as phone, fax, and e-mail.
Contact Information
The name, address, and other contact information for the
individual point-of-contact for the licensee are displayed.
Ownership and Qualifications Information
Radio Service Type
One or more of the following The radio service types will
be is displayed:
- Fixed
- Mobile
- Radiolocation
- Satellite (sound)
- Broadcast Services
Regulatory Status
This item identifies the type(s) of radio service offerings
provided by the applicant, as follows: Common Carrier,
Non-Common Carrier, and Private (internal communications),
Broadcast Services and Band Manager.
Interconnected
This item will display ‘Yes’ if interconnected
service is provided to the public switched telephone network
as defined in FCC rules. ‘No’ will appear
if this service is not provided. If there is no response
on record, the field will be blank.
Alien Ownership
If the applicant answered ‘No’ to all questions
in this section, the following message is displayed: "The
applicant answered ‘No’ to each of the Alien
Ownership questions." A link is also provided to
access the complete text of the questions. If the applicant
answered ‘Yes’ or did not respond to one or
more items, the text of the questions will be displayed.
‘Yes’ or ‘No’ indicates the applicant’s
response. If no response is on record, the field will
be blank.
Basic Qualifications
If the applicant answered ‘No’ to all questions
in this section, the following message is displayed: "The
applicant answered ‘No’ to each of the Basic
Qualification questions." A link is also provided
to access the complete text of the questions. If the licensee
answered ‘Yes’ or did not respond to one or
more of the questions, the text of the questions will
be displayed. ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ indicates
the applicant’s response. If there is no response
on record, the field will be blank.
Demographics
The names of up to four racial/ethnic groups, an indication
of Hispanic/Latino status, and the gender of the licensee
will be displayed in this section if the applicant included
this optional information on FCC Form 601 Main Form.
The indication of a Minority Owned Business, Rural Telephone
Company and Woman Owned Business will also be displayed
in this section if the applicant included this optional
information on the FCC Form 601, Schedule B.

The top of the Admin (Administration)
tab identifies the Call Sign and Radio Service of the license.
Applications
This section details the date, file number and type, and status
of any applications relating to the license on file in the
system. Click on the file number of an application to open
a new window with the Application Search detail page for the
application. Up to three applications associated with the
call sign are displayed on the Admin tab. If there are more
than three, click the link provided to access the All Applications
page.
Automated Letters
This section lists the letters generated by ULS that the FCC
has sent to the licensee and/or its contact. You are able
to view a summary of the information associated with each
letter. A sequential reference number assigned by ULS identifies
each letter, the call sign, the letter type (e.g., Renewal
Reminder), and the date the letter was generated. Click the
number/title of a letter to open a new browser window and
display the complete text of the letter. If there are more
than three letters associated with the license, click the
link provided to access the All Automated Letters page.
Comments
Up to three comments made by the FCC will be displayed. If
there are more than three, click the link provided to access
the All Comments page.
History
This section lists each significant event that occurred for
the license, as well as the date on which the event occurred.
The date and description of up to three history items will
be displayed. If there are more than three, click the link
provided to access the All History page.
Special Conditions
This section displays special rules or restrictions that apply
to a particular license. The text of up to three special conditions
will appear. If there are more than three, click the link
provided to access the All Special Conditions page. Note:
Refer to the Locations and/or Frequencies tabs to see special
conditions at those levels.
Attachments
Lists all attachments that are part of this license record
and allows you to view an attachment. Each attachment is displayed
with the Type of the attachment (Waiver, Divestiture, Ownership,
Fee Exemption, 47 C.F.R. 17.14 ASR Exemption or Other), a
Description of the attachment, and the Date the attachment
was added to the license record. To view an attachment, click
on its Description. If there are more than three attachments,
click the link provided to view all the attachments on a separate

Channel Block and Associated Frequencies
The Channel block letter/number and the frequencies associated
with the channel block are displayed.
Channel Block
The channel block letter/number within the market is displayed.

Associated Frequencies
Frequency range(s) for the channel block are displayed.
Auction
The auction number and title of the auction, which usually
includes the Radio Service, are indicated (e.g., 10 - Broadband
PCS). A link to the Auction's information page is provided.
Views
By default, the Market Summary page displays the Spectrum
and Market Areas for the license. Click the links provided
to view either Undefined Areas or Other Licenses in the Market
Area.
The Undefined Areas view provides the number and spectrum
associated with the undefined area. This information will
be stated as either excluded or included data. Click on the
name of the undefined area to view a complete list of the
coordinates that delineate the area.
The Other Licenses link in Market view provides the Call
Sign, Licensee Name, Grant Date, and Status for the licenses
in the same radio service, market, and channel block. Click
the Call Sign of the license to access all license detail
information for that license.
Authorized Spectrum
The Market Summary page will display authorized spectrum and
geographical areas for the current license if it has been
subject to, or results from, a partition or disaggregation.
(This information is not displayed for licenses that have
not been partitioned or disaggregated.)
If a license has been disaggregated, the Authorized Spectrum
of the license is displayed. Compare this spectrum with the
Associated Frequencies at the top of the page to determine
the difference between the amount of spectrum for the channel
block and the amount of spectrum authorized for the individual
license.
For licenses which have been partitioned or partitioned and
disaggregated, Authorized Spectrum is displayed along with
the geographic areas associated with the specific spectrum.
If a license is issued on an MTA basis, and one or more BTAs
are partitioned, each remaining BTA is displayed with an indicator
of “All Counties.”
If a license is issued on a BTA basis, and one or more counties
is partitioned, each remaining county is displayed with an
indication of the number of counties remaining versus the
total number of counties in the market, e.g. “44 of
58 counties.”
Number of Counties/All Counties
Click on the county indicator to view a complete list of all
counties in the BTA. If one or more counties have been partitioned
from a market, the counties remaining with the license will
appear on the complete list of counties marked with asterisks
and highlighted.
Market Area Type
Each market is defined by a geographical area and is always
made up of one or more counties. Examples are MTA, BTA, MEA,
EA, county, etc.
Code
Each market is associated with a code. For example, MTA 001
is the New York MTA. Note: Each code is 3 digits except for
counties, which are 5 digits.
Population
Note: The population figures displayed on a license are for
reference only and are based on data provided by the Census
Bureau for the 2000 Census. The licenses do not display population
figures provided by licensees on FCC Form 603 for partitioned
and disaggregated applications.
